About climate solidarity

Where we Are

San Luis Obispo (SLO), California

Why slo?

Because of SLO's history of being a world leader.

A world leader? SLO??

Yes SLO! In fact, SLO was the first city in the world to ban indoor smoking in 1990. In the years that followed, cities, states, and countries around the Earth did the same. We believe we can do the same with Climate Change.

Benefits of a support group

Support groups bring together people who have had similar experiences and are struggling with similar feelings. A support group about climate change will allow a community of people to gather and share and heal from their feelings around the climate crisis. This group will build connections with others who will support you in your efforts to change your own habits to be more eco-friendly as well as emotional encouragement. At Climate Solidarity we value the relationship between nature and ourselves. We believe that as a group, if we continue to align our values and actions with whats good for nature, then we will see the benefits in other parts of our lives. Whether it be health, finances, or connection to spirituality, as a group we will support each other in changing our habits to benefit ourselves and nature.

How we will begin

The support group will gather in a comfortable, safe place. We will communicate and express our feelings surrounding our climate crisis. We will evaluate our individual parts in contributing to climate change as well as the emotions that come with them. We will utilize our own spiritual development to enhance our growth and better connect us.
Defining Spirituality
We will be using Mayo Clinic's definition of spirituality in this support group.

"...spirituality helps to give your life context. It's not necessarily connected to a specific belief system or even religious worship. Instead, it arises from your connection with yourself and with others, the development of your personal value system, and your search for meaning in life.
For many, spirituality takes the form of religious observance, prayer, meditation or a belief in a higher power. For others, it can be found in nature, music, art or a secular community. Spirituality is different for everyone."

Engaging in spiritual practices will be used to enhance the support group. Please know that this means one's own personal spiritual practices. This is an inclusive space that is accepting of all forms of beliefs and spirituality.
